Slowakije wordt tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog wreed geregeerd door de nazi's. Voor Vlado en de andere kinderen in zijn dorp is dat geen belemmering om rare streken uit te halen, te dromen over heldendaden, de meisjes te bespioneren of om soldaatje te spelen. Als Vlado's oom echter een geweer bij Vlado thuis verstopt, zou hij zijn droom om de nazi's neer te knallen waar kunnen maken...
