Will Randall staat op het punt weggepromoveerd te worden ten gunste van zijn jonge collega Stewart. Op weg naar huis over een donkere gladde weg, rijdt hij een reusachtig dier aan. Als Will het beest aan de kant wil slepen, bijt het hem. Nadien merkt Will dat hij beter kan zien, ruiken en horen. Hij ontmoet Laura Alden, de dochter van zijn baas. Het is volle maan als Will toevallig bij haar blijft slapen. Als hij 's morgens wakker wordt ligt er bloed naast hem. Het blijkt dat hij een weerwolf is geworden.
