Al Connelly (Freddie Prinze Jr) is een student die dolgraag kok wil worden. Tijdens een avondje in de studentenkroeg valt hij als een blok voor de leuke kunststudente Imogen. Direct zijn ze stapelverliefd. Voor beiden is het hun eerste grote liefde. Een tijd lang gaat het hartstikke leuk, maar een relatie krijg je niet kado, er moet voor gewerkt worden! Gelukkig hebben ze een hele lading ontzettend maffe vrienden om hun goed "advies" te geven.
