De film vertelt het verhaal van Ned Kelly, die samen met zijn broer Dan en twee anderen de beruchte Kelly Gang vormde. Gebruikmakend van eigengemaakte kogelwerende uitrustingen pleegden ze tussen 1878 en 1880 een serie roofovervallen.
