Havana: November, 1958. Katey verhuist in de broeierige weken voor de revolutie met haar ouders naar Cuba. Katey's vriendenkring bestaat uit Amerikaanse jetset leeftijdgenootjes. Toch valt haar oog al snel op Javier , een charmante ober en een zeer getalenteerde Cubaanse danser. Ze daagt Javier uit om mee te doen aan de nationale danscompetitie in een chique nachtclub in Havana. Door de oefenavondjes ontdekt Katey de andere kant van Cuba. De mooie Amerikaanse hotels verruilt ze voor rokerige nachtclubs waar alleen de lokale bevolking komt. Hier leert Javier haar pas echt wat dansen met passie is...
