Cathy is de perfecte jaren '50 huisvrouw. Op een avond betrapt ze haar echtgenoot met een andere man, en haar nette wereldje valt uit elkaar. In haar verdriet vindt ze troost in de vriendschap met haar Afro-Amerikaanse tuinman. Gezien de taboes die hier op rusten raakt haar leven nog verder in de war.
