Strafrechtadvocate Mea Harper staat op het punt partner te worden bij haar firma. Eerst zal ze een hindernis moeten overwinnen in de vorm van kunstenaar Zyair Malloy. Hij wordt beschuldigd van het vermoorden van zijn vriendin. Hoewel Mea en Zyair een intieme relatie krijgen tijdens het behandelen van de zaak, stuit Mea ook op bewijs dat aanduidt dat haar cliënt misschien toch niet onschuldig is.
