De jonge idealistische dromer John Allen Chau wil uit de greep van zijn strenge vader loskomen. Ook koestert hij een onweerstaanbare drang naar avontuur en zit in hem een diep gelovige ziel geworteld. Zodus vertrekt hij op missie naar North Sentinel Island. Hij gelooft namelijk dat hij de geïsoleerde volksstam die er woont kan bekeren tot het christendom. Intussen doet een rechercheur er alles aan om aan zijn levensgevaarlijke missie een halt toe te roepen.
