De nieuwe dokter Malcolm Sayer krijgt te maken met een zaal vol coma-patiënten. Wanneer hij een mogelijk medicijn vindt krijgt hij toestemming om het op één van de patiënten uit te proberen. De man, die ontwaakt, is in coma geraakt toen hij nog kind was.
