Tom Baker krijgt een baan als football-coach in Chicago, waardoor hij, zijn vrouw en hun twaalf kinderen naar de grote stad moeten verhuizen. Ook Tom's vrouw krijgt het druk, omdat haar boek eindelijk gepubliceerd gaat worden. Het levert hen dan ook veel problemen op om de kinderen enigszins normaal op te voeden.
