Billy Madison is de 27-jarige zoon van de rijke Bryan Madison. Billy staat op het punt om het gigantische hotel-imperium van zijn vader te erven, maar dan moet hij eerst nog even bewijzen dat hij de familie-business wel waard is: Hij moet in een half jaar de complete basisschool en middelbare school doorlopen. Ondertussen probeert Billy de hand te winnen van de lerares Veronica.
