In de jaren 40 ontmoeten tieners Allie Hamilton en Noah Calhoun elkaar. Ze worden op slag verliefd, en beleven een zomer vol hartstocht en passie. Dat valt niet in goede aarde bij Allies rijke ouders, die Noah geen goede partij vinden voor hun dochter.
