Paul en Jessie Duncan verliezen hun achtjarige zoontje Adam tijdens een verkeersongeluk. Ze krijgen dan hulp van wetenschapper Richard Wells, die hun zoon via het klonen van zijn DNA opnieuw geboren kan laten worden. Maar als deze Adam dan ook de leeftijd van acht jaar bereikt begint hij ineens drastisch te veranderen en komt zijn ware aard naar boven.
