In het jaar 1974 ontvangt de schrijfster Linda Rosenkrantz haar goede vriend en fotograaf Peter Hujar in haar New Yorkse appartement. Gedurende deze dag praten ze onder meer over de kunstwereld en de persoonlijke moeilijkheden die bij het leven van een kunstenaar horen. Hujar meldt ook zijn wens om echt gezien te worden en de angst dat deze nooit in vervulling zal gaan.
