De carrière van tennisprof Chris Wilton (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) loopt ten einde en hij gaat werken als leraar op een exclusieve Londense tennisclub. Hij raakt bevriend met één van zijn leerlingen, de rijke, knappe en verwende Tom Hewitt. Tom introduceert Chris in zijn familie en weldra krijgt Chris een relatie met Tom's zus Chloe. Hoewel er huwelijksplannen zijn met Chloe en Chris door zijn 'adoptie' door de Hewitt's financieel en zakelijk binnen is, kan hij zijn ogen echter niet afhouden van Tom's nieuwste vriendin, de Amerikaanse actrice Nola Rice (Scarlett Johansson). Chris krijgt een affaire met de onstabiele Nola. Wanneer hun passionele relatie een gevaar dreigt te worden voor Chris' nieuwe levensstijl, wordt hij voor een dramatische keuze gesteld.
