Nick (Tim Robbins) is een zeer geslaagde manager van een groot reclamebureau, die een zenuwinzinking nabij is wanneer hij zijn vrouw in bed aantreft met zijn baas. Als hij overstuur in zijn auto stapt, probeert de goedgebekte, maar niet zo handige, autodief Jesse (Martin Lawrence) hem te beroven. Na deze ongebruikelijke kennismaking sluiten Nick en Jesse een niet alledaagse vriendschap, waarna het duo van de ene merkwaardige situatie in de andere belandt. Samen smeden zij een plan, waarmee zij beiden denken financieel binnen te lopen en waarmee Nick tegelijkertijd hoopt wraak te nemen op zijn vrouw en baas. Nick komt er achter dat hij een ernstige vergissing begaat en samen met Jesse moet hij alles op alles zetten om de schade te herstellen, voordat deze vergissing zijn leven voorgoed verpest.
