Louis Mazzini's moeder behoort tot de aristocratische familie D'Ascoyne, maar ging er vandoor met een operazanger. Daardoor werden ze verstoten door de D'Ascoynes. Wanneer hij volwassen is besluit Louis om zijn moeder te wreken door de eerstvolgende hertog van de familie te worden.
