De rivaliteit tussen Richard Dees en Katherine Blair, twee reporters van het sensatieblad Inside View, laait hoog op als ze van hun uitgever een sappige opdracht krijgen. Een mysterieuze piloot die op kleine en verlaten luchthavens landt, zou zich tijdens nachtelijke moordpartijen te goed doen aan het bloed van buurtbewoners. In zijn privvliegtuig volgt Dees het bloederige spoor van deze moderne vampier. Hij zet getuigen onder druk om de meest akelige details te onthullen en drukt daarbij de wansmakelijke foto's af die hij kan vinden. Maar ook Blair laat zich niet onbetuigd om achter de waarheid te komen. Het lot zal haar hierbij een aardig handje helpen.
