1962 ten tijde van de Cubacrisis. De alleenstaande moeder Kay Harris (Teri Garr) verhuist samen met haar excentrieke tante Zena (Shirley MacLaine) en haar twee ondeugende kinderen vanuit Chicago naar een klein, slaperig stadje in het westen van Amerika. Daar hebben ze een café geërfd van een overleden oom en proberen ze een beter leven op te bouwen. De kinderen krijgen het aan de stok met de rare buurman en besluiten samen met hun tante hem terug te pakken door een spookverschijning in scène te zetten. Als de buurman echter denkt dat hij is bezocht door een engel, leidt dit onbedoeld tot enorm veel publiciteit, waardoor het stadje overspoeld wordt door nieuwsgierige bezoekers.
Nee, helaas is Waiting for the Light nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
