De 17-jarige Richard Samuels droomt van een carrière op Broadway. Op een dag ontmoet hij bij toeval acteur Orson Welles. Hij is onder de indruk van Richards ambitie en zorgt voor zijn grote doorbraak. Richard ontdekt echter dat een leven in de showbusiness misschien niet zo geweldig is als gedacht.
