Na de dood van zijn vrouw vertrekt Joe met zijn dochters naar Italië, Genova, om les te geven aan de universiteit. Hij hoopt daar hun leven opnieuw te kunnen oppakken. Genova verandert hen alle drie. De jongste dochter ziet de geest van haar moeder, en de oudste dochter ontdekt haar seksualiteit.
