Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog in 1945 was Iwo Jima gedurende twee maanden het toneel van bloederige gevechten tussen Japanse en Amerikaanse soldaten. Generaal Tadamichi Kuribayashi vocht gedurende 40 dagen voor zijn Japan tegen de Amerikaanse troepen. Al snel komen de generaal en zijn troepen erachter dat ze aan een zelfmoordmissie bezig zijn.
Nee, helaas is Letters from Iwo Jima nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
