Een monsterachtige moordenaar terroriseert Londen met een serie gruwelijke moorden. Stone (Rutger Hauer) is een ervaren, geharde en meedogenloze Amerikaanse huurling. Bijgestaan door de jonge detective Durkin staat hij voor de taak het monster, dat ook zijn partner heeft vermoord, te vernietigen. Het lijkt een onmogelijke taak die hem op het randje van gezond verstand èn van de dood zal laten balanceren.
