De bejaarde Avery Ludlow is een teruggetrokken, wat eenzame man die maar één vriend heeft, zijn 14-jaar oude trouwe viervoeter Red. Zijn wereld stort in wanneer drie opgeschoten jongeren het dier zonder enige reden ombrengen. Avery neemt zich voor gerechtigheid te doen zegevieren, op wat voor manier dan ook.
