Het verhaal gaat over het footballseizoen in 1988 van de Odessa (Texas) Permian High Panthers, een high school footballteam. De strijd en de hoop van een financieel geruïneerd stadje wiens hoop gevestigd is op het footballteam in de wedstrijden van vrijdagnacht worden in de film gevolgd.
Nee, helaas is Friday Night Lights nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
