De naïeve en onschuldige Melody Pearson komt naar New York om haar droom van een modellencarrière te vervullen. Eenmaal aangekomen in de grote stad, komt ze erachter dat het wereldje anders in elkaar zit dan ze van tevoren had verwacht. Ze leert al snel dat de verraderlijke modellenwereld vergelijkbaar is met een ware vleesmarkt.
