Een ouder wordende acteur is wanhopig: hij zou absoluut willen spelen in de film, waarvoor zijn vrouw het scenario schreef, maar hij is totaal niet het type dat past bij de rol. Onverschrokken vermomt hij zich als een jonge, charmante Italiaanse acteur, slaagt in zijn opzet en reist naar Boedapest. Zijn vrouw is er zich helemaal niet van bewust dat hij het is en de complicaties ontstaan wanneer ze verliefd wordt op hem.
