Schoonheidsspecialiste Gina (Queen Latifah) verhuist naar Atlanta zodat haar dochtertje naar een prestigieuze muziekschool kan gaan. Haar nieuwe werkgever is echter een nogal flamboyante egoïst George (Kevin Bacon), die zelf alle eer van Gina's werk opstrijkt. Gina besluit haar eigen salon te openen en neemt het shampoomeisje (Alicia Silverstone) en een aantal goede klanten met zich mee. George merkt al gauw dat Gina veel succes heeft en probeert haar zoveel mogelijk te dwarsbomen. Maar niemand zal Gina eronder krijgen en met de hulp van de sexy buurman zal ze dit bewijzen!
