Twee jonge mannen ontmoeten elkaar in de zomer van 1963 en komen tot een onverwachte band. Ze hoeden samen schapen op Brokeback Mountain. Als de klus er op zit gaan ze ieder hun weg en brengen langzamerhand orde in hun bestaan.
