Amy Anderson is net afgestudeerd in poëzie. Ervan overtuigd dat ze de volgende ster is in de literaire wereld trekt ze bij haar ouders in om poëzie te schrijven en haar plekje in de wereld te vinden. Maar na een stapel afwijzingen, onbetaalde studieleningen en geen geld besluit ze een baan te zoeken in de echte wereld. De enige plaats waar ze aangenomen wordt is een boekhandel voor volwassenen genaamd Adult World. Hier ontmoet ze de manager Manny en zijn travestiete vriend Rubia. Als ze na een lezing van haar favoriete dichter Rat Billings hem begint te stalken gaat Rat akkoord om haar te helpen haar werk gepubliceerd te krijgen.
Nee, helaas is Adult World nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
