Plot

Nick Charles en zijn vrouw Nora hebben een baby gekregen. Nog net voor Nicky's eerste verjaardag krijgen ze een telefoontje uit Long Island van Nora's oom, kolonel MacFay. Een vroegere werknemer van de oom lijkt zich op hem te willen wreken. De man dreigt zelfs met moord. Kort nadat Nora en Nick aankomen bij MacFay wordt de oude heer 's nachts in zijn slaapkamer vermoord. Het is aan Nick om als amateur-detective de zaak op te lossen.
