De film vertelt het waargebeurde verhaal van Jim Morris, die door een armblessure moest stoppen met honkballen. Twaalf jaar later besluit hij, geïnspireerd door de jongens die hij traint, om alsnog te proberen om zijn droom uit te laten komen. Hij weet uiteindelijk een contract te krijgen bij de Tampa Bay Devil Rays, waarbij hij in september 1999 alsnog de Major League haalt.
