De New Yorker Jake valt als een blok voor de mooie schooljuf Olivia Farragut. Deze heeft het echter te druk met het zoeken naar geldschieters om haar school open te houden. Jake en zijn vriend Barney ontdekken dat Olivia een fortuin zal erven indien zij een echte heer huwt. Jake besluit daarop om zich voor te doen als een man van goeden huize.
