Ray Tuckby is een fatsoenlijke en getemperde man die woont in het gortdroge dorpje Trona dat gerund wordt door de lokale etterbak Dirk. Hij beseft dat hij een beter leven had kunnen hebben, maar hij besloot in Trona te blijven wegens zijn jeugdherinneringen aan deze stad. Een onverwachte gebeurtenis doet Ray besluiten het roer radicaal om te gooien, om zo zijn leven een andere richting op te laten gaan.
