Op een zekere dag pauzeert de eenvoudige buschauffeur Harold in een trendy café in Beverly Hills. Daar zit toevallig ook zijn lievelingsactrice Amanda. Als haar zaakwaarnemer aan de telefoon wordt geroepen, neemt hij zonder schroom plaats aan haar tafel en vertelt dat hij een talentvol scriptschrijver is en invloedrijke mensen kent in de filmindustrie. Als Amanda een afspraak met hem maakt om een script voor een nieuwe film te schrijven, moet hij zijn woorden omzetten in daden.
