Twee broers wonen in de economisch achtergebleven Rust Belt, wanneer een van hen door een wrede speling van het lot in de gevangenis belandt. Zijn broer, als militair geplaagd door oorlogstrauma's, probeert rond te komen van gokgeld en prijzengeld dat hij wint met illegale boksgevechten, en komt hierdoor terecht bij een gewelddadige groep rednecks uit het berggebied, met hun eigen wetten en regels.
