Het dorp Blaine lijkt op het eerste gezicht onbetekenend, maar werd 150 jaar eerder gesticht door de man die de pioniers naar Californië escorteerde. Het dorp maakte ook naam met de productie van voetenbankjes. Ter gelegenheid van het 150-jarig bestaan van het dorp wordt een musical opgevoerd met de meest talentvolle bewoners. De schrijver van het stuk is verrukt als hij hoort dat de criticus Guffman komt kijken of de musical voor Broadway geschikt is.
Nee, helaas is Waiting for Guffman nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
