Homer woont z'n hele leven al in het weeshuis van Dr. Larch omdat hij nooit werd geadopteerd. Larch ziet Homer een beetje als zijn eigen zoon en heeft hem opgeleid als zijn opvolger. Als de jonge geliefden Wally en Candy het weeshuis bezoeken, voert Dr. Larch een abortus uit, ondanks het feit dat dat illegaal is. Homer besluit, tot verdriet van Dr. Larch, om niet z'n hele leven in het weeshuis te blijven werken, maar de wijde wereld in te trekken.
Nee, helaas is The Cider House Rules nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
