Een tiener uit New York is geobsedeerd door klassieke kung-fu films. Op een dag doet hij een buitengewone ontdekking in Chinatown: hij vindt de legendarische Ru Yi-staf van de Chinese strijder Sun Wukong "the Monkey King". Met het verloren gewaande overblijfsel in handen wordt de tiener onverwacht teruggestuurd naar het oude China om daar de ware betekenis van kung-fu te leren.
Nee, helaas is The Forbidden Kingdom nog niet beschikbaar op Netflix in Nederland.
