De wees Oliver Twist wordt verkocht aan een begrafenis-ondernemer. Hij ontsnapt naar Londen waar hij zich bij een bende zakkenrollers aansluit. Hierdoor ontmoet hij een aardig man die hem in huis neemt, tot ongenoegen van zijn oude collega's.
