Door zijn theorie over reizen naar een parallel universum en een aanval op talkshow host Matt Lauer, wordt Dr. Rick Marshall (Will Ferrell) als wetenschapper beschimpt en gedegradeerd tot leraar op het George C. Page Museum waar hij Holly (Anna Friel) ontmoet die hem en zijn idealen wakker schudt waardoor Marshall alsnog zijn draagbare tachyon apparaat in elkaar zet. Voortvarend sleept Holly de tegensputterende Marshall mee om het apparaat te testen en ze komen terecht in een mysterieus land, waar dinosauriërs nog bestaan en vreemde volkeren leven, genaamd Pakuni en Sleestak.
