Wanneer Todd Anderson voor 30 miljoen dollar een contract tekent bij het basketbalteam The New York Nets, begrijpt hij dat hierdoor zijn leven volledig zal veranderen. Vastbesloten om zijn afkomst niet te verloochenen, organiseert hij een grootse barbecue waar hij zowel zijn familie als oude en nieuwe vrienden uitnodigt.
