Een architect komt in conflict met een uitgesproken vrouwenactiviste, die moet leven in een gevaarlijk complex dat door de architect ontworpen is. Het verhaal volgt twee families in Chicago die ieder aan de andere kant van het economisch spectrum verblijven. Items zoals sexualiteit, klasseverhouding en familie-politiek passeren de revue.
