Archie (Olivier) is de zoon van een legendarische komiek. Zelf moet hij genoegen nemen met een derderangs theatertje waar hij zijn grappen en grollen mag opvoeren. Verder bedriegt hij zijn vrouw en dwingt zijn zoon het leger in. Uiteindelijk krijgt hij zijn stervende vader zo ver om een laatste revue te financieren.
