John Kent (Monte Blue) wint het Olympische tienkamp, maar hij wordt uitgesloten voor deelname aan het hoogste niveau. Hierdoor gaat de winnaar van de tweede prijs ervandoor met de titel en de trofee. Zes jaar later traint hij zijn jonge zoon Johnny, zodat hij kans maakt op de prijs.
