Het fictieve stadje Royston Vasey stevent af op de apocalyps. Voor de bewoners is er maar een mogelijkheid om aan het definitieve einde te ontkomen. Ze moeten zien te vluchten naar de echte wereld om diegenen die ooit het stadje en haar inwoners verzonnen te gaan zoeken. Er volgt een lange reis met vele obstakels.
