Het Londen van nu… De contactgestoorde, extreem saaie minister van buitenlandse zaken, Simon Foster (Tom Hollander), heeft tot grote woede van zijn meerderen een rel veroorzaakt in de media door per ongeluk in een radio-uitzending een mogelijke aanval op het Midden-Oosten te onthullen. Om de schade te herstellen arriveert de meedogenloze, hysterische “spin-doctor” Malcolm Tucker (Peter Capaldi), die Foster onmiddellijk op een “zoektocht naar de feiten” trip naar Washington stuurt. Foster vindt zich plotseling terug in een anarchistische wereld van vredesactivisten, losgeslagen oorlogsfanaten, infantiele bureaucraten en irritante stagiaires. Vanuit Northampton naar de “West Wing” in Washington en het wordt alleen maar erger…
