In een klein dorpje Salem in Massachusetts wordt een kleine groep meiden betrapt tijdens een duivels ritueel. Langzamerhand begint iedereen in het dorp te geloven dat ze aan hekserij doen. De leidster van de groep reageert op die beschuldigen door andere mensen aan te geven. Binnen de kortste keren beschuldigt iedereen elkaar wat leidt tot rechtspraken en ophangingen.
