Hank Palmer is een bekende advocaat uit de grote stad. Hij keert terug naar zijn geboortedorp waar zijn vader, de rechter van het dorpje, verdacht wordt van moord. Ondanks het feit dat Hank van zijn vader vervreemd is geraakt gaat hij toch op zoek naar de waarheid en ondertussen haalt hij de banden met zijn familie opnieuw aan.
