Logan en Victor zijn broers en tevens mutanten met bijzondere gaven. Nadat ze als soldaten worden gearresteerd, vraagt kolonel William Stryker het tweetal voor een bijzondere opdracht met een speciaal team van mutanten. Ze besluiten het te doen, maar op een gegeven moment stapt Logan op, om een vredig leven te starten. Als Logan een aantal jaren later echter wordt geconfronteerd met zijn gewelddadige broer Victor, besluit hij opnieuw met Stryker in zee te gaan. Stryker maakt van hem een uitzonderlijke mutant, sterk genoeg om Victor te verslaan. Wolverine is geboren.
